Unemployment frustration sparks protests in Nepal, demand for PM's resignation
Nepal has once again been gripped by protests over unemployment, economic uncertainty and growing frustration among the youth, with demonstrators calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
According to Indian media NDTV, three young people have attempted suicide in the past three days, two of whom have died while the third is battling for life. These incidents have further fuelled anti-government anger, with protesters accusing the government of failing to create jobs and ensure financial security.
The organisation Gen-Z Nepal has alleged that the current budget and policies lack realistic measures to address youth unemployment, accusing the government of pursuing anti-people policies. The opposition Nepali Congress has also questioned the Prime Minister's silence, saying policy failures have created deep despair among the youth.
Protesters are demanding employment-focused policies and effective steps to tackle the economic crisis, alongside the Prime Minister's resignation.
