Upazila Livestock Officer held over rape allegation in Dinajpur

A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a Dinajpur Upazila livestock officer at his office in Hakimpur on a weekly holiday, police said.

The incident reportedly took place on Friday morning (April 3).

The victim, a resident of Hakimpur and mother of two, works as a cattle farmer, filed a case with Hakimpur Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on the same day.

Police arrested the accused around 8:00pm near Hili Bus Stand in Hakimpur town following the complaint.

According to the case statement and police sources, the officer, who was previously acquainted with the victim, called her to his office around 9:30am under the pretext of talking. Once she arrived, he allegedly locked the door and raped her.

Police sources also said the officer had been involved in previous misconduct allegations against women.

Confirming the arrest, SI Mostafizur Rahman of Hakimpur Police Station said the victim has been sent to the forensic department of Dinajpur Medical College for a health examination.

"The accused will be produced in Dinajpur court on Saturday afternoon," he added.
