Upcoming election will be most transparent in history: EC Sanuallah
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazl Md Sanuallah has stated that the upcoming thirteenth national parliamentary election will be the most transparent election in Bangladesh’s history. He said that the election schedule will be announced in the first half of December.
He made the remarks on Tuesday morning at Agargaon during a dialogue with representatives of domestic election observation organisations. Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin presided over the dialogue, which was attended by other commissioners and senior EC officials. Representatives from 40 domestic observer organisations took part in the first session.
EC Sanuallah said the 2026 election would be the most transparent in the country’s history, and anyone attempting to disrupt it would not be spared.
He added, “The schedule will be announced in the first half of December. Observers must submit their lists to the Election Commission within 10 days of that announcement. The next parliamentary election will be participatory. Observers, whether individuals or institutions, cannot show bias. Low-quality observers are unnecessary.”
He further stated, “Foreigners cannot act as observers on behalf of local organisations. They must apply under relevant laws to observe as foreign monitors. Freelance observers will not be allowed. Observers will carry out duties on the day before, the day of, and the day after the election. To identify fake observers, the EC will use QR codes on identity cards.”
