US airstrike is 'despicable', Iran reserves options for self-defence: Foreign Minister

Iran's Foreign Minister Sayyid Abbas Araghchi has sharply condemned a recent US airstrike, calling it a "despicable" and "criminal" act, and warned that the consequences will be long-lasting, reports BBC.

In a strongly worded statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi said Iran is "reserving all options for self-defence" and is prepared to take necessary measures to protect its sovereignty.

"The events of this morning are terrible and their consequences will be permanent," he wrote. "Such an attack is not only against us, it is an attack on the entire international order."

The Iranian Foreign Minister accused the United States, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, of committing a grave violation of the UN Charter. He urged the international community to take a proactive stance against what he described as dangerous and illegal behaviour.

"Every member state of the United Nations should be vigilant against this internationally criminal behaviour," Araghchi said. "The global community must act to prevent such unilateral aggression."
