US announcement of shutting down all Iranian airlines from September 23

The United States has warned that the activities of all airlines of Iran may effectively shut down from September 23. Washington has given the threat of imposing secondary sanctions on the concerned foreign institutions if they continue giving services to the aviation companies of the country.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said that fuel cannot be supplied if any aircraft of Iran lands on Monday (September 21). At the same time he has also warned against giving landing and other airport services and selling tickets of Iranian airlines. The threat of disconnecting the concerned institution from the US dollar-based financial transaction system has been given if these directives are violated.

It has been said in the report of Al Jazeera that the announcement of this new step has come as part of the ongoing economic pressure of the administration of President Donald Trump against Iran. At the beginning of the current month the US Treasury Department also imposed sanctions on multiple international institutions on the allegation of assisting several Iranian airlines that were not earlier under the scope of sanctions and the aviation sector of the country.

The aviation sector of Iran has been in crisis for a long time due to the US sanctions. Due to the sanctions it has become difficult for the airlines of the country to buy new aircraft, collect spare parts and get the necessary maintenance services. If the new US step becomes effective the activities of the Iranian aviation companies on international routes may be further obstructed.

The United States is increasing the scope of sanctions and secondary sanctions in various sectors to disconnect Iran from the international financial system. Among these there are also the foreign institutions doing business with Iran in the fuel, shipping, technology, gold and digital assets sectors. It has been warned that the risk of US sanctions may be created against these institutions.

Meanwhile a meeting of Trump with President of China Xi Jinping is scheduled to be held on September 24. Before this Washington has given the announcement of the new step surrounding Iran. Bessent has informed that positive discussions are going on with the officials of China, the important economic and diplomatic partner of Iran, regarding the implementation of the sanctions.

He has further claimed that the Chinese officials are ‘fully involved’ in the process of making the US sanctions against Iran effective. The US Treasury Secretary has also informed that discussions on this matter are continuing with the top economic institutions of China.
