US attack on Iran: Violation of international law is unacceptable
The Iran-Israel conflict has clearly turned into war with the involvement of the United States. Since the Israeli attack on Iran, US President Donald Trump had been threatening Iran, giving it a two-week ultimatum. However, even before the two weeks were over, US B-2 warplanes launched a devastating attack on three of Iran’s nuclear facilities. Not only Iran, but also Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, Chile, Lebanon, Cuba, and Oman have strongly condemned and protested the US attacks. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has also expressed concern over the incident. Tehran has stated that this is clearly a violation of international law, which is in no way acceptable.
According to Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, “No state shall use force against the sovereignty, territorial integrity or political independence of another state.” But we see that Israel and the United States are jointly using force against Iran in violation of international law. Iran has rejected the allegation that it is building nuclear bombs as entirely baseless. Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Under this treaty, Iran has the right to peaceful use of nuclear energy. No evidence has been found that they have done anything beyond the treaty. Then why did Israel and the United States launch this pre-emptive attack on Iran?
Questions have been raised that it is not about deactivating the nuclear programme, but rather Israel and the United States want to change Iran’s political structure. Although Israel has denied this allegation. The war has entered its second week, and in the 11-day war, over a 1,000 people on both sides have been killed and around 5,000 have been injured. The damage caused by missile and drone attacks is immeasurable. The whole world is now gripped by fear, and it is unclear where this war is heading.
Political analysts are saying this is clearly an aggressive war and that it is an obvious violation of international law. According to the UN's human rights policies, human dignity, freedom, and security must be upheld — today’s aggressive war is rendering all of that meaningless. This war is essentially an insult to humanity. Peace can never be achieved through war.
