US Embassy issues new medical visa guidelines for Bangladeshi applicants

The US Embassy in Dhaka has introduced new documentation requirements for Bangladeshi citizens applying for B-2 medical visas, requiring applicants to provide detailed evidence of their medical needs, estimated treatment costs and financial capacity to cover all expenses related to their stay in the United States.

The updated guidelines were announced through a notice published on the embassy's verified Facebook page on Saturday (July 25).

According to the embassy, every medical visa application is assessed individually by consular officers. A key part of the evaluation is determining whether applicants can independently finance their medical treatment and all associated expenses during their stay in the United States, ensuring that no financial burden falls on US taxpayers.

Under the revised requirements, applicants must submit a medical prescription or recommendation from their treating physician explaining the nature of their illness and why treatment in the United States is medically necessary.

Applicants are also required to provide a written confirmation from a physician or medical institution in the United States agreeing to provide treatment. The document must specify the proposed treatment plan, the expected duration of care and the estimated cost of treatment.

In addition, applicants must present credible proof of financial capability to cover airfare, medical expenses, accommodation and all other living costs throughout their stay in the United States.

The embassy said submitting complete and accurate supporting documents will help ensure a more transparent and efficient visa assessment process.
