US embassy issues urgent message for visa applicants

The US embassy in Dhaka has advised visa applicants to schedule their visa interviews at the embassy or consulate in their own country, warning that applying from another country could complicate the process and reduce the chances of approval.

In a post on its verified Facebook page on Sunday, July 19, the embassy said it is most appropriate for applicants to schedule their visa interviews at the US embassy or consulate in their home country. Applying from another country could make the process more difficult and may lower the likelihood of visa approval. It also noted that visa fees paid for such applications are non-refundable.

Earlier, the US embassy in Dhaka announced a new two-step interview process for all immigrant visa applicants.

Under the new rules, applicants must provide their social media usernames or handles used in the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form. The embassy said withholding or providing incomplete social media information could result in the visa application being cancelled and could even affect eligibility for future US visas.
