US has established peace with Iran: Trump
US President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States has established peace with Iran and that this agreement will bring peace and security to the entire region, according to a report by the Israeli media outlet Times of Israel.
Trump announced the development in a post on his Truth Social platform, stating that the formal signing of the agreement to end the war will take place on Friday, and the Strait of Hormuz will begin to reopen from that day .
"The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!" Trump wrote on Truth Social . "I hereby fully authorise the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!"
Trump claimed on Truth Social that this "great deal" would bring peace and security to the whole region, asserting that many presidents had tried and failed to make peace with Iran before him .
He further stated that following the signing on Friday, the strait will be reopened for mine removal operations, through which oil will flow once again "on both ends" of the region and the entire world .
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has been acting as a mediator in the negotiations, also announced the agreement on X, stating that both sides have declared the "immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon" . The official signing ceremony is scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland .
Iran has blockaded the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil supply route, since the war began in late February . While Trump mentioned mine removal operations, there is no confirmation that mines were actually placed in the strait.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that a memorandum of understanding has been finalised but stressed that it "does not mean we trust the enemy" and that it was "drafted under active distrust." He added that Iran will monitor US compliance with its commitments.
