US Independence Day shooting in New York leaves 8 injured
A shooting during United States Independence Day celebrations in New York City's Coney Island left at least eight people injured, including four children.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the incident took place around 10:37pm (local time) on West 31st Street in Brooklyn's Coney Island area last Saturday. Officers rushed to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire.
According to ABC News, the victims include two men, two women and four children aged 14, 12, 7 and 6. All were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police said seven of the injured are in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman is in critical condition.
Investigators recovered a firearm from the scene, but no arrests had been made as of Sunday. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The incident occurred during celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of US Independence, casting a shadow over the holiday festivities.
Reuters reported that the NYPD did not immediately respond to its request for further comment.
