The United States and Iran are set to hold a second round of talks on Monday, following an initial dialogue held in Pakistan’s capital over the weekend, according to a source familiar with the discussions.

The first round of talks took place in Islamabad on last Saturday, led by US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Bagher Ghalibaf, with Pakistan acting as a mediator.

While no significant breakthrough was achieved in the initial meeting, both sides agreed to continue discussions, the source told.

Preparations are underway for negotiators to arrive in Islamabad by Sunday, though the exact timing of the next round has not yet been finalised.

The renewed diplomatic engagement comes after 40 days of sustained conflict in the region, followed by a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran on April 8.

Israel reportedly halted strikes on Iran under US pressure and later reached a separate 10-day truce with Lebanon.

Iran has also reopened the Strait of Hormuz in the wake of de-escalation efforts, easing concerns over global energy shipments.
