US lost sovereignty’ over New York: Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States has “lost sovereignty” over New York following the election of the city’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, warning that New York could soon turn into a “communist city.”

Trump made the remarks during a speech in Miami on Wednesday, according to a TRT World report on Thursday (November 6).

Trump said, “We’ll look into it,” without explaining how national sovereignty was affected.

He added that Florida could become a refuge for people fleeing “New York’s communism.”

Trump said Americans now face a clear choice between “communism and common sense,” calling for an “economic miracle, not a nightmare.”

He also expressed hope for New York’s success and hinted that Mamdani might receive limited federal support.

Mayor Mamdani, an immigrant Muslim politician, responded that he is open to discussing living costs with Trump, emphasizing that identifying workers’ struggles is not enough—real action is needed to address them.

He pledged to focus on improving public services in the city.
