US special envoy meets Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka

US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor held a meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi in Dhaka on Friday (July 31). The meeting, held at a hotel in the capital, is being seen as an important part of ongoing diplomatic activities.

Diplomatic sources confirmed the meeting but did not officially disclose details of the discussions. However, it is believed that various regional and bilateral issues of mutual interest to Bangladesh, India and the United States were discussed.

Sergio Gor arrived in Dhaka on Thursday on a three-day official visit, his first to Bangladesh. On the first day of his visit, he met with Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman.

On Friday, he visited the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar to assess the humanitarian situation there. On the final day of his visit, Saturday, he is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

It may be noted that Sergio Gor serves as the US Ambassador to India, in addition to his role as Special Envoy for South and Central Asia. His visit is considered significant from the perspective of Bangladesh-US relations and regional diplomatic engagement.
