US strikes Iran’s drone control sites, IRGC claims retaliatory attack
Tensions between the United States and Iran intensified following a series of reported strikes and counterstrikes targeting military infrastructure in Iran and a US facility in the region.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out “self-defence strikes” over the weekend on radar and drone control sites in Gooruk city and Qeshm Island, citing what it described as Iranian hostile activity.
CENTCOM stated that Iranian forces shot down a US MQ-1 drone operating in international airspace, prompting US fighter jets to respond with strikes that destroyed an Iranian air defence system, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones. No US casualties were reported.
In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that it had struck a US military base used in the southern Iran operation. Tehran did not disclose the exact location of the facility.
The US and Iran have exchanged similar attacks in recent days, including incidents near the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating regional tensions.
