US wants England to win World Cup: Trump's representative
Despite the United States being eliminated from the World Cup in the Round of 16, the White House's interest in the tournament has not waned. Andrew Giuliani, President Donald Trump's representative for World Cup matters, has expressed his desire to see England become champions.
In an interview with the British media outlet Daily Mail, Giuliani said that if the US cannot win the World Cup on its 250th anniversary of independence, then England winning the tournament on American soil would be a great story.
England have not won the World Cup since 1966. A victory this time would end their 60-year wait. "England has been waiting for almost 60 years, to my knowledge. If they win this time, that would be great. They are one of the best teams remaining in the tournament," Giuliani said.
Giuliani also said Trump has been closely following England's performances, particularly captain Harry Kane, whom Trump called a "great player and a fantastic person" on his Truth Social platform.
Giuliani described Kane as the most important player for England's title hopes. He also praised Jude Bellingham as an "amazing footballer." He advised England to maintain confidence and said the coach's job is to make the players believe they are capable of winning the World Cup.
England face a tough test in the second semi-final against defending champions Argentina in Atlanta on Thursday.
