US warns citizens to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia

The United States has advised its citizens to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia, citing risks including armed conflict, terrorism and potential attacks targeting US interests.

The US State Department placed Saudi Arabia at Level 3, or “Reconsider Travel,” in an updated advisory published on its international travel website on Wednesday (September 16).

The advisory cited the risk of Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting US interests in Saudi Arabia, along with terrorism, armed conflict, exit bans and restrictions under local laws governing social media use.

The State Department also warned that security risks vary across the country. Areas along the Yemen border have been placed under a separate Level 4, or “Do Not Travel,” advisory because of the heightened threat of terrorism.

The US has maintained its highest-level travel warning for neighbouring Yemen, advising American citizens not to travel there.
