Verdict in Nasir–Tamima case set for June 10
A Dhaka court has fixed June 10 for judgment in a case filed against national cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana Tammi over allegations of abduction, adultery and defamation.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order on Wednesday (May 6) after both prosecution and defence completed their final arguments.
During the hearing, plaintiff’s lawyer Ishrat Hasan sought the highest punishment for the accused, while defence counsel Azizur Rahman Dulu prayed for acquittal, claiming the defendants were innocent.
The case was filed on February 24, 2021, by Rakib Hasan, the former husband of Tamima Sultana, alleging that Nasir Hossain was involved in luring away his wife and causing the breakdown of their marriage, along with claims of defamation and mental harassment.
According to the case statement, Tamima Sultana married Rakib Hasan in 2011 and they have a child together. The dispute became public after photographs of Nasir Hossain and Tamima’s marriage surfaced on social media in February 2021.
Following the complaint, the court framed charges against Nasir Hossain and Tamima Sultana on February 9, 2022, formally initiating the trial. Witness testimonies and hearings were subsequently completed in multiple phases.
With arguments concluded, the court has now set June 10 for delivering its verdict.
