Veteran actress Basanti Chattopadhyay passes away
Veteran actress Basanti Chattopadhyay passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday morning at 10 AM. She was 88 years old and had been battling cancer along with age-related health issues for a considerable period.
Basanti Chattopadhyay was last seen in the popular television serial Geeta LLB. Despite her declining health, she continued to attend shoots regularly, often traveling from Dumdum to Sonarpur. During the shoot, she took medication costing around Rs 20,000 per month and injections worth approximately Rs 4,500.
She was staying at home with a caretaker at the time of her passing. Her family, including her daughter, are currently attending to final arrangements. The Artist Forum in Kolkata has confirmed and conveyed the news of her demise.
Industry colleagues and friends have expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Actor Baswar Chattopadhyay had publicly raised concerns about her health and appealed to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for financial assistance to support her. Actor Snehasis Chakraborty had also extended help during her difficult times. Basanti’s notable contributions include performances in films such as Thagini and Ami Se O Sakha.
Her longtime housemaid, overcome with emotion, shared that Basanti had no recent health complications but suffered greatly in the last six months. She passed away suddenly, leaving behind a legacy cherished by all who knew her.
