Veteran actress Bhadra Basu passes away

Veteran actress and director Bhadra Basu, who mesmerised audiences with her powerful performances on stage and on the big screen in West Bengal, has passed away. She died on Friday night, November 14 at a hospital in Kolkata. She was about 65.

According to an Indian media report, the acclaimed actress had been suffering from serious health complications for some time. Initially, gallbladder stones were detected. However, due to high blood pressure and heart issues, immediate surgery could not be performed. Doctors were trying to treat the condition with medication.

The situation worsened when she suddenly fell at home and suffered a head injury. She was first admitted to a private hospital. Later, she was shifted to Kolkata’s renowned SSKM Hospital.

After that, she underwent complex brain surgery at the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences. During this period, kidney complications also appeared. Despite doctors’ efforts, she died on Friday night.

Bhadra Basu was the wife of renowned theatre director and actor Asit Basu. She was an exceptional actress on both stage and screen. Recently, she appeared in several films. Her performances in Suman Mukhopadhyay’s ‘Putulnacher Itikatha’ and Anilava Chatterjee’s ‘Bela’ were widely praised.
