Vinicius shines as Brazil top Group C with dominant win over Scotland
Vinicius Junior scored twice as Brazil secured a 3-0 victory over Scotland in their final Group C match at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, finishing as group winners.
Brazil dominated from the start, with Vinicius opening the scoring in the seventh minute. The Brazilian forward capitalised on a defensive error when Scotland's Scott McKenna's pass was blocked by Ryan, and the ball fell perfectly for Vinicius, who made no mistake.
Vinicius thought he had scored a second in the 22nd minute, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review for a foul in the build-up, sparking debate.
Brazil continued their control in the second half, with Matheus Cunha adding a third goal in the 60th minute. He finished off a brilliant attack from Bruno Guimaraes' second assist of the match.
The match also marked the long-awaited return of Neymar Jr., who had been sidelined for 982 days since his last appearance for Brazil on October 17, 2023. He entered the field in the 75th minute, replacing Cunha, to a huge roar from the Miami crowd.
The result sees Scotland become the seventh team to be eliminated from the World Cup, while Brazil advance to the knockout rounds as group champions.
