Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has declared the arson and vandalism during last week’s Gen-Z protest as anti-national criminal activities.

Speaking on Sunday (September 14) after assuming office at Singha Durbar, she stated that the violent incidents would be thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators would be brought to justice. She also emphasised the need for national unity and collective commitment to guide the country on the right path.

Karki took her oath just a day after being appointed as interim Prime Minister. Following the oath-taking, she announced relief assistance for those affected by the protests and pledged to hold prompt elections as per the government’s roadmap.

“I have never witnessed such change in just 27 hours. To implement the demands of the protesters, everyone must work together,” Karki said.

She further mentioned that she had assumed the responsibility not by personal choice, but at the request of the people. She described the violent events in the name of the protests as deliberate, raising concerns of possible conspiracy.

PM Karki confirmed that investigations would cover the vandalism at Singha Durbar, the Parliament building, the Supreme Court, business establishments, and private properties. She also called for a proactive approach to revive the country’s economy.
