All consular services, including visa issuance, at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi have been temporarily suspended until further notice. The decision was taken to avoid any untoward situation, according to a notice issued by the High Commission on Monday, December 22. The notice, displayed at the mission premises, expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the suspension. The move follows protests by 20 to 25 supporters of an extremist group in front of the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi on Saturday, December 20, and Sunday, December 21. During the demonstrations, protesters reportedly called for Bangladeshis to leave India. On Sunday, Bangladesh’s visa centre in Siliguri was also attacked and vandalised.

ভারতের রাজধানী দিল্লিতে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন পরবর্তী ঘোষণা না দেওয়া পর্যন্ত সব ধরনের কনসুলার সেবা ও ভিসা প্রদান সাময়িকভাবে স্থগিত করেছে। অনাকাঙ্ক্ষিত পরিস্থিতি এড়ানোর স্বার্থে এ সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে। সোমবার (২২ ডিসেম্বর) বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশনের জারি করা এক নোটিশে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়। মিশনের সামনে ঝোলানো নোটিশে সাময়িকভাবে সেবা বন্ধ রাখার কারণে দুঃখ প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে। এর আগে শনিবার (২০ ডিসেম্বর) ও রোববার (২১ ডিসেম্বর) দিল্লিতে বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশনের সামনে উগ্রপন্থি একটি সংগঠনের ২০–২৫ জন সমর্থক বিক্ষোভ করেন। বিক্ষোভ চলাকালে তারা বাংলাদেশিদের ভারত ছাড়ার আহ্বান জানায়। এ ছাড়া রোববার ভারতের শিলিগুঁড়িতে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশের একটি ভিসা সেন্টারে হামলা ও ভাঙচুরের ঘটনাও ঘটে। এসব ঘটনার প্রেক্ষাপটে নিরাপত্তা ও শৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতি বিবেচনায় নিয়ে কনসুলার সেবা ও ভিসা কার্যক্রম সাময়িকভাবে বন্ধ রাখার সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে।&nbsp;
