West Indies dominate Pakistan to take 1-0 series lead

Chasing a modest target of 211 runs, Pakistan collapsed spectacularly, bowled out for just 120 as West Indies cruised to a 90-run victory at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.

From the start of the innings, Pakistan looked helpless against the Caribbean pacers, losing nine wickets for just 71 runs. Captain Babar Azam fought a lone battle, remaining unbeaten on 58 off 107 balls. He managed some resistance with Mohammad Abbas at the tail, but could not save his side from defeat. Abbas scored 23, while only Mohammad Rizwan (11) reached double figures.

Jayden Seals was the hero with the ball for West Indies, taking 5 for 20 in 14.2 overs. Kemar Roach and Justin Greaves took two wickets each, while Shamar Joseph claimed one.

Earlier, West Indies posted 311 in their first innings, to which Pakistan replied with 282. Taking a 29-run lead, the hosts scored 181 in their second innings, with Mohammad Abbas taking 5 for 22 for Pakistan.

This defeat also set some unwanted records for Pakistan. It was their eighth consecutive Test loss away from home, the longest such streak in Pakistan's history. Chasing 211 and being bowled out for 120 is also Pakistan's second-lowest total in a successful run chase. In a rare occurrence, all 40 wickets in the match were taken by pacers—only the sixth time in Test cricket history.

Justin Greaves, who made headlines with five wickets in five consecutive maiden overs in the first innings, was named Player of the Match. Pakistan now need to win the second and final Test at Queen's Park Oval to level the series, while West Indies will seal it with a win or a draw.
