People who hold high positions in the state and are involved in important policy-making and administrative work are given special status as VVIPs. These include the President and the Prime Minister or a person of equivalent status.

According to Section 2 of the Special Security Force Act, 2021, '"VVIP" means the Head of State or Head of Government of a foreign country and any other person declared to be such person by the Government, by notification in the Official Gazette, for the purposes of this Act.'

According to the Special Security Force Act, 2021, it is the responsibility of this force, i.e. the SSF, to provide security to VVIPs.

In addition to the President and the Prime Minister or the Chief Adviser to the Interim Government, according to Section 8(2) of the Act, the SSF 'shall also provide physical security to VVIPs who are present in Bangladesh.'

That is, if a person or official is declared to be very important, the SSF will be engaged in ensuring his or her overall security and will 'collect and exchange intelligence that may jeopardize his security and will take all necessary measures to provide him/her with physical security'.

If the SSF finds someone harmful to the security of a very important person, they can arrest him without a warrant and this power is applicable to all parts of the country. Not only that, but they can also shoot or kill him, considering the situation.
