Autumn brings a familiar transformation to Bengal’s landscape—clear blue skies, drifting white clouds, gentle breezes and fields of blooming kash flowers swaying in the wind.

For Dhaka residents looking for a short escape without taking a long trip, several spots around the capital can offer a taste of the season’s beauty. Popular options include Diabari in Uttara, Purbachal, Ashulia and the riverine areas around Mawa and the Padma chars.

Diabari, Uttara

Diabari is one of the easiest places to visit from Dhaka. Its open spaces, water bodies and seasonal kash fields create a picturesque setting, particularly in the late afternoon when the soft sunlight illuminates the white flowers.

Visitors can take the metro rail to Uttara North Station and continue by rickshaw or auto-rickshaw. The area can also be reached by bus or private vehicle.

Best time: 4pm until sunset.

Purbachal

For a more open setting away from the city’s bustle, Purbachal is another option. During autumn, kash flowers can often be found around its open spaces and lakes.

The area is also suitable for photography and a quiet afternoon outdoors. As the location of kash fields changes from year to year, visitors should check locally before heading out.

From Kuril, visitors can travel along the 300-foot road towards Purbachal and then use local transport to reach suitable open areas and lakesides.

Best time: Afternoon to sunset.

Ashulia

With its rivers, water bodies and wide open fields, different parts of Ashulia can offer attractive autumn scenery. Its proximity to Dhaka makes it convenient for a short trip.

Since kash flowers may not be found in the same locations every year, it is advisable to ask local residents about current spots before visiting.

Best time: Afternoon.

Mawa and the Padma chars

Those looking to combine kash flowers with a vast river landscape can head towards Mawa and the chars along the Padma.

The combination of river, sandy islands and white kash flowers can create a striking autumn setting. However, visitors travelling to the chars should make arrangements for local boats and confirm return transport in advance.

Mawa can be reached from Dhaka by bus or private vehicle, followed by a local boat trip to suitable char areas.

Best time: Afternoon to sunset.

Choose according to your time

For a quick outing, Diabari is among the most convenient choices. Purbachal and Ashulia offer more open surroundings, while Mawa is a better option for those who want to experience kash flowers alongside the river and chars.

A few things to keep in mind

Visitors should avoid picking flowers or damaging plants while taking photographs. Anyone planning to enter privately owned land should seek the owner’s permission.

Extra caution is needed near rivers, canals and other water bodies, particularly after rain, when paths can become muddy and slippery. Those travelling in the afternoon should also arrange their return transport beforehand.

Most importantly, a kash field should not be assumed to remain in the same location every year. Changes in land use, construction and seasonal conditions can alter where the flowers grow and how extensive the fields are. Checking with local residents before travelling is therefore recommended.

Autumn’s beauty does not always require a distant getaway. Just beyond Dhaka’s busy streets, a few hours among swaying white kash flowers can offer a simple and memorable seasonal escape.
