Why delay in issuing strict orders to curb crime?

The law and order situation in the country has completely collapsed since the mass uprising. There is no crime that is not being committed. The people of the country are living in terrible fear every day. This is the main failure of the interim government. The law and order forces have shown a lot of laxity so far. In this, IGP Baharul Alam's message has become a message of hope. According to the news published in the media on Monday (March 10), a strict message has been given to the field administration of the police to curb crime. It has been asked to deal with any kind of chaotic situation, including mob violence, more firmly from now on. The message is clear: no matter the political affiliation or group, anyone taking the law into their own hands will face action.

Last Sunday, IGP Baharul Alam held a virtual meeting with the police superintendents of all 64 districts. In this meeting, it was emphasized that crime-related data and evidence should be analyzed, and if necessary, cases will be filed under special powers laws. Senior officials, including all Range DIGs and Metropolitan Police Commissioners, attended the meeting, where they discussed the current law and order situation and future challenges. The information was gathered by talking to several officials who attended the meeting.

The question is; seven months have passed since the mass uprising, and for the last five or six months, the law and order situation has been in a precarious state. Why did the IGP take so long to issue this stern directive? After so many incidents of murder, rape, mob justice, and attacks on homes and shrines, why were they so lenient until now? Now, IG Baharul Alam is saying that no matter the political affiliation or group, action will be taken against criminals. Does that mean the police were silent until now because they were considering political affiliations and groups? According to police law, the only identity of an offender, regardless of their side, should be that they are a criminal. So why is this renewed insistence on impartiality now?

Even then, I applaud the IGP for finally giving such a message. After a long time, such a strong message will strengthen the police. It will help to overcome the dilemma that the police are in when it comes to enforcing the law. It will also send a new message to the criminals.
