Wildfire rages Nagaland’s Dzukou Valley for 3rd day
A massive wildfire raged in the Dzukou Valley of Nagaland for the third day, with strong winds expanding the affected area and pushing the flames towards Japfu mountain range, raising ecological and safety concerns.
According to local authorities, the fire was reportedly sparked by the negligence of four local trekkers who visited the valley on Friday. While camping, they lit a small fire in front of their tent and went to fetch water. Upon returning, they found the fire had spread rapidly, trapping them briefly in the flames.
The trekkers were rescued on Saturday, by which time approximately 1.3 square kilometers of the valley had been engulfed by the fire, reports THE HINDU.
Authorities say the affected area continues to expand.
During initial questioning, the trekkers admitted to lighting the fire in front of their tent, which is believed to have triggered the wildfire.
