Winners of the 2026 Pulitzer Prize announced

The 2026 Pulitzer Prize, the most prestigious honour in global journalism, has been announced. Following tradition, the winners' names were unveiled at Columbia University in New York. The awards this year honoured impactful and courageous journalism focusing on sensitive issues such as international conflict, abuse of power, and global surveillance technology.

Reuters won the prestigious 'Breaking News Photography' award for its visual documentation of the 2025 Iranian embassy hostage crisis in Damascus . The agency also won the 'National Reporting' award for its investigation into Pegasus Project 2.0, a powerful cyber-weapon . Overall, Reuters won four awards this year, including the 'Feature Photography' award for coverage of the hidden costs of the global nickel boom and the 'Commentary' award .

The New York Times won the 'Investigative Reporting' award for uncovering explosive information about the misuse of political power for personal gain . The newspaper also received the 'International Reporting' award for its coverage of the war in Gaza, beating out competition from The Economist .

Washington Post staff won the 'Public Service' award for their series 'The Inside Man', which analysed the influence of a consultant on the Trump administration. The publication also won the 'Explanatory Reporting' award for its analysis of systemic issues in America's organ transplant network .

ProPublica received the 'National Reporting' award for its investigation into Supreme Court ethics . The Associated Press (AP) won the 'International Reporting' award for its investigation into the negative use of surveillance technology .

In the arts and literature categories, Daniel Kraus won the 'Fiction' award for his acclaimed book 'Angel Down'. Jill Lepore won in the 'History' category, and Amanda Vaill received special honours in the 'Biography' category.

Established in 1917, the Pulitzer Prize is considered the 'Nobel Prize' of journalism. This year's awards serve as a brilliant example of maintaining objective journalism amidst political instability and pressure worldwide.
