Woman beaten in Dhanmondi 32 sent to jail
Salma Islam, 40, a woman who was beaten in front of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence on Dhanmondi 32 Road, has been sent to jail in a case related to an attempted killing during the July movement.
On Friday, November 13, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Parth Bhadra conducted a hearing, rejected her bail plea, and ordered her remand to jail.
Earlier, on Thursday, November 13, at around 11:30am, Salma Islam was attacked during the vandalism of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence on Dhanmondi 32 Road. She was rescued and taken into police custody. Later, the investigating officer, SI Anwar Mia of Dhanmondi Model Police Station, produced her in court, citing the case of attempted murder against third-year BBA student Abu Said Md Saim of European University, and requested her detention in jail.
Her lawyer, Abul Hossain Patowary, applied for bail on her behalf. The court rejected the bail plea and ordered her to be sent to jail, Patowary said.
According to the case details, during the July movement on 19 July at around 10:45am, Saim participated in a rally on Satmasjid Road under Dhanmondi Police Station. He was shot in the back there. After receiving treatment and recovering, he filed a case on 1 December last year at Dhanmondi Model Police Station against 37 people, including Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader.
