Woman dies mysteriously in Dhamrai, lover detained

A woman named Lakshmi Rani, 30, has died under mysterious circumstances in Dhamrai, Dhaka, following an extramarital affair. Police have detained her alleged lover, Swapan Adhikari, 40, in connection with the incident.

The body was recovered on Tuesday morning, June 9, from the house of Chitta Roy in Kandikul village, Somvagh union of the upazila. The incident reportedly occurred around 4:00 am.

Lakshmi was the daughter of Birendra Mondal of Mirzapur upazila, Tangail. The detained Swapan Adhikari is the son of Rabindra Adhikari of Sakhipur upazila, Tangail.

According to police and local sources, Lakshmi came to Dhamrai with Swapan on Monday night due to their romantic relationship. They stayed at Chitta Roy's house in Kandikul village. An altercation took place between them. Swapan allegedly left her alone in the room and went outside. Lakshmi's body was later found with an scarf tied around her neck. Initially suspected as suicide, the exact cause of death remains mysterious.

Dhamrai Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Shahidul Islam said the body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy. A case is being processed, and an investigation is ongoing.
