Woman misses Air India flight by 10 minutes, escapes tragedy
Bhoomi Chauhan, a London-based woman, missed Air India’s Ahmedabad to London flight AI-171 by just 10 minutes a twist of fate that may have saved her life.
Chauhan, who had returned to India for a vacation after two years, was scheduled to fly back to London alone. However, a traffic delay caused her to reach the airport late. “I missed the flight by just ten minutes. My body is literally shivering. I am still not able to speak properly. My mind is totally blank,” she told Republic TV.
“I left the airport around 1:30 pm after missing the flight. The plane took off at 1:38 pm. I cannot express what I am feeling right now,” said Bhoomi, overwhelmed by emotions after learning about the tragic accident.
Chauhan expressed her gratitude for the twist of fate that spared her life. “Ganpati Bappa saved me,” she said tearfully. “I don’t know how to explain this… it feels like a second chance at life.”
The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon, had 231 people on board. It plunged into a residential area moments after becoming airborne, erupting into a massive fireball.
Thursday’s crash is one of the most catastrophic incidents involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation by aviation authorities.
