Women’s Kabaddi World Cup likely to be held in Dhaka
The Women’s Kabaddi World Cup, originally scheduled to take place in Hyderabad, India, from 3 to 10 August, was postponed after Pakistan decided not to play there. Bangladesh has emerged as the first-choice alternative venue according to the International Kabaddi Federation. If all goes well, the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup will be held in Dhaka later this month.
SM Neowaz Shohag, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation, told yesterday about the possibility of hosting the tournament: “We have received a letter from the International Kabaddi Federation proposing Bangladesh as the host. We have already informed the government of our position. Once we get the green signal from the government, we will organise the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup.”
Md. Aminul Islam, outgoing Executive Director of the National Sports Council, said, “The application we received has been forwarded to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The ministry has then sent it to the Ministry of Finance. Now, whether the World Cup will be held in Bangladesh depends on the decision of the Ministry of Finance.”
A total of 14 teams are expected to participate in this edition of the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup.
