World Cup 2026 Round of 32 takes shape: Who awaits Brazil, Germany and Netherlands?
The knockout picture at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is becoming clearer after the completion of all three group-stage matches in Groups A to F, with several Round of 32 fixtures now confirmed and others dependent on the tournament's best third-placed teams.
From the first six groups, Mexico and South Africa (Group A), Switzerland and Canada (Group B), Brazil and Morocco (Group C), the United States and Australia (Group D), Germany and Ivory Coast (Group E), and the Netherlands and Japan (Group F) have secured places in the Round of 32.
The remaining knockout berths will be filled by the tournament's eight best third-placed teams once all group-stage matches are completed.
Confirmed Round of 32 fixtures:
June 29: Group A runners-up South Africa will face Group B runners-up Canada.
June 29: Group C winners Brazil will take on Group F runners-up Japan.
June 30: Group E winners Germany will face one of the best third-placed teams from Groups A, B, C, D or F, with Paraguay and Sweden among the leading potential opponents.
June 30: Group F winners Netherlands will meet Group C runners-up Morocco.
June 30: Group E runners-up Ivory Coast will play the runners-up from Group I, with France or Norway likely to fill that spot.
July 1: Group A winners Mexico will face one of the best third-placed teams from Groups C, E, F, H or I.
July 2: Group D winners United States will take on Bosnia, who qualified as one of the best third-placed teams from Group B.
July 3: Group B winners Switzerland will face one of the best third-placed teams from Groups E, F, G, I or J.
July 4: Group D runners-up Australia will meet the runners-up from Group G, with Egypt, Iran or Belgium among the possible opponents.
With the remaining group-stage matches yet to be completed, the identities of several best third-placed qualifiers—and a number of knockout pairings—will be finalized in the coming days.
