World Cup supercomputer issues prediction for Spain vs Argentina final

A supercomputer has predicted that Spain will win the World Cup. La Roja will face Argentina in the showpiece game in New Jersey's MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

The Opta computer has calculated that the Spanish have a 45.1 per cent chance of winning the trophy for the second time in their history, inside 90 minutes.

Argentina, the reigning champions, have been given a 29.4 per cent chance of victory. The probability of the World Cup final going to extra time, or even to a penalty shootout, stands at 25.4 per cent.

Luis de la Fuente's side are slight favourites with a number of bookmakers heading into the tie. Spain outplayed France, many people's favourites to lift the World Cup this summer, with a comprehensive 2-0 win in the Semi-finals.

After beating Les Bleus, Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri said: "I’m very proud of my team and what it represents for us. Now it’s time to rest because we probably have the most important match of our lives on Sunday.
