World may pay heavy price if Iran conflict drags on: Putin
Vladimir Putin has warned that the ongoing conflict surrounding Iran must end “as soon as possible,” cautioning that a prolonged war could have serious consequences for the entire world.
Speaking at a press conference in Moscow, the Russian president said continued instability in the Middle East would impact global energy markets and further threaten regional security.
“If the conflict continues, everyone will suffer,” Putin said, stressing that the rising tensions are already putting pressure on international stability and fuel supplies.
Putin also revealed that Russia is prepared to take custody of and store Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, recalling that Moscow had previously removed enriched uranium from Iran under the 2015 nuclear agreement framework.
“We are ready to use that experience again if necessary,” he said.
According to Putin, all parties involved in the negotiations had initially agreed on transferring Iran’s enriched uranium outside the country. However, he claimed the United States later hardened its stance by insisting the uranium should only be transferred to American territory, prompting Tehran to adopt a tougher position in response.
The Russian leader said Moscow would continue diplomatic engagement with both Washington and Tehran in an effort to reduce tensions and seek a political solution to the crisis.
Putin expressed hope that the current confrontation would be resolved quickly, amid growing international concern over the possibility of a wider regional conflict.
