World-renowned golf coach Gregoric trains Siddikur, local coaches in Dhaka

World-renowned golf coach Uros Gregoric of Slovenia arrived in Bangladesh on Wednesday, April 1, and spent the day training Siddikur Rahman and local coaches at a programme organised by the Bangladesh Golf Federation.

A four-day 'Technical Course for Coaches in Golf' began at the Army Golf Club academy with support from the Bangladesh Olympic Association. The initiative aims to enhance the skills of local golf coaches across the country.

Top Bangladeshi golfer Siddikur Rahman participated in the course along with his wife. Local coaches who train emerging golfers also attended the session.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Chief Guest Major General (retd) Masud Razzak, vice president of the Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF), said the federation had organised such training for the first time to ensure there is no gap in coaching methods.

BGF General Secretary Brigadier General (retd) Saeed Siddiqui said improving coaches' skills is essential for the development of golf in Bangladesh. "The more skilled our local coaches become, the more skilled golfers we will produce," he said.

Gregoric, who has conducted similar training programmes in many countries, expressed delight at being the trainer for the initiative. He said such courses help enhance coaches' capabilities.

Siddikur Rahman said, "I am not a coach, but I believe such training is necessary. There is no end to learning. My goal is to continue playing golf as long as I can. I believe I will learn a lot from this course."

National golf team coach Nadeem Hossain said local coaches were fortunate to receive training from such a renowned coach. "This four-day training will enhance our skills. We hope to learn new things that will help us develop new golfers," he said.

Among others, BGF Joint Secretary Brigadier General Sajjad Hossain, Bangladesh Olympic Association Director General Brigadier General (retd) A B M Shefaul Kabir, Director of the National Sports Council Md Aminul Ahsan, and Director of Bangladesh Golf Academy Lieutenant Colonel Tozammel Haque were present at the inaugural session.
