Writ filed seeking cancellation of BCB ad-hoc committee
A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking the cancellation of the newly formed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad-hoc committee led by former national captain Tamim Iqbal.
The petition was jointly submitted by 12 individuals, including former cricketers and former BCB officials on Saturday (May 16).
Among the prominent petitioners are former national players Aminul Islam Bulbul, Faruque Ahmed, Khaled Mashud Pilot and Asif Iqbal.
Earlier on April 7, the National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the previous BCB board led by Aminul Islam and formed an 11-member ad-hoc committee to oversee the country’s cricket administration.
Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was appointed chairman of the newly formed committee. The panel also includes former cricketers Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Athar Ali Khan.
The committee drew attention for the inclusion of several politically connected figures, including barrister Rashna Imam, wife of BNP lawmaker Bobby Hajjaj. Other members include Mirza Yasser Abbas, Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khasru — sons of senior political figures Mirza Abbas, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury respectively.
Additional members of the committee are Tanzil Chowdhury, Mirza Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Fahim Sinha.
