X unveils new android app following a year of development

Following nearly a year of development, the Elon Musk-owned social media platform X has released an entirely new version of its app for Android users. The new app has been made available for everyone to download starting Monday (July 20).

According to the company, this version is not merely an update to the previous application; rather, the Android app was built entirely from scratch. As a result, users are expected to experience significant improvements in app speed, scrolling smoothness, notification handling, and overall performance.

In August of last year, Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, revealed that a dedicated engineering team had been formed to enhance the experience for Android users. He later noted that as the popularity of the Android app continued to grow, building this new version was given the highest priority.

Following the release of the new app, Nikita Bier described it as "one of the largest engineering projects" in the company's history. In his words, the new app is much faster, smoother, and more reliable than before, while also creating the foundation to roll out new features more rapidly in the future.

In recent months, X has launched new services such as X Money and X Chat. The company anticipates that these features will function more effectively through the new Android app. Given that the majority of the world's smartphone users are on the Android platform, this new version is expected to attract even more users to X.

However, the company acknowledged that the app still has a few minor limitations. In particular, efforts are ongoing to optimize performance on older Android devices and to provide full support for the live audio feature, Spaces. Additionally, Nikita Bier mentioned that several new features—including a new video editor, video replies, cashtags, and custom timelines—will be added to the Android version very soon.

Current Android users can start using the new version simply by updating the X app through the Google Play Store.
