Chinese President Xi Jinping skipped a dinner hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday in honour of leaders attending the BRICS summit, according to India Today, citing sources familiar with the matter on Sunday.

The dinner was arranged on the sidelines of the summit on Saturday night. The exact reason behind Xi's absence was not immediately known, though a source suggested he had returned to his hotel to rest.

Xi arrived in Delhi on Saturday afternoon to attend the summit and held a bilateral meeting with Modi on the sidelines. This marks the Chinese President's first visit to India in seven years.

Meanwhile, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed also missed the dinner as he returned home earlier in the day after concluding his schedule. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other BRICS leaders attended the event.
