Xi Jinping proposes four-point plan to strengthen China–North Korea friendship
Chinese President Xi Jinping has put forward a four-point proposal aimed at strengthening and advancing the long-standing friendship between China and North Korea.
He made the remarks during an official meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea.
Xi said he was willing to work with Kim Jong Un to strengthen China–North Korea relations in the new era, using the visit as an opportunity to deepen cooperation. He added that the goal of this partnership is to bring greater benefits to the peoples of both countries and contribute positively to regional and global peace, stability and prosperity.
Emphasising the development of bilateral ties in the new era, Xi said the traditional friendship between China and North Korea has grown on the basis of shared ideals and struggles. He described the relationship as having a deep historical foundation, a stable political base and strong mutual trust.
He stressed that, regardless of changes in the international situation, the foundation of China–North Korea friendship will remain unchanged. He also said China’s support for North Korea’s socialist path and development will continue, along with efforts to protect shared strategic interests and a stable external environment.
Xi noted that leadership-level engagement between the two countries is the strongest asset in bilateral relations. He expressed his desire to maintain close strategic communication with Kim Jong Un to further advance ties.
He added that China is ready to expand practical cooperation with North Korea in areas including trade, agriculture, construction, science and technology, and healthcare.
To improve connectivity and exchanges, Xi proposed reopening border ports comprehensively. He also highlighted the role of civil aviation and international passenger rail services in increasing people-to-people contact between the two countries.
He concluded by saying that the friendship forged through the blood of the two nations’ heroes remains their most valuable asset.
