China has proposed the establishment of an economic corridor linking Bangladesh, Myanmar and China during bilateral talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in Beijing on Friday (June 26).

The proposal was disclosed by Prime Minister's Office spokesperson Mahadi Amin during a post-meeting briefing.

According to Mahadi, the proposed corridor aims to deepen regional economic integration by expanding Bangladesh's trade and economic footprint, boosting cross-border transactions, and strengthening multimodal transport connectivity among the three countries.

The proposal emerged during the high-level meeting held at 10:00am (local time) at the President's Office in the Great Hall of the People.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Rahman paid tribute to China's fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square.

His remaining engagements in Beijing include a meeting with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, and a visit to the National Museum of China.

The prime minister is scheduled to conclude his official visit by departing Beijing for Dhaka at 5:00pm (local time), with his delegation expected to arrive in Bangladesh at around 7:00pm (Bangladesh time).
