Yamal's brace helps Barcelona to thrash Valencia 5-0

Lamine Yamal scored twice as Barcelona extended their perfect start to the LaLiga season with a commanding 5-0 victory over Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday (September 6).

The defending champions made it four wins from four matches to move clear at the top of the table, taking full advantage of Real Madrid’s defeat on Friday. Barcelona have now scored 17 goals in their opening four league games.

Yamal opened the scoring in the sixth minute, finishing from a pass by Fermin Lopez. He thought he had doubled the lead two minutes later, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Fermin then made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute, finishing low into the corner after being set up by Anthony Gordon.

Raphinha added a third five minutes after the interval, converting from close range following a move involving Yamal and Fermin.

Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski produced several saves to prevent further damage, but Pedri struck in the 79th minute after Dani Olmo created the chance.

Yamal completed his brace five minutes later, firing home from Olmo’s through ball after another VAR review confirmed the goal.

The victory leaves Barcelona on 12 points from four matches, while Valencia remain bottom with one point.
