Year’s first annular solar eclipse today
The first major astronomical event of 2026, an annular solar eclipse, will occur today (February 16).
According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the eclipse will begin at 5:56:36pm (Bangladesh time) and end at 8:27:36pm.
The striking “Ring of Fire” effect will be visible in parts of the world including Argentina, Chile, South Africa, and Antarctica, ISPR noted.
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth but does not completely cover the Sun, leaving a bright ring of sunlight around the lunar silhouette.
While the rare celestial phenomenon has sparked global interest among scientists and skywatchers, it will not be visible from Bangladesh.
