Youth arrested over offensive Facebook post about Zaima Rahman
Police have arrested a youth in Kachua upazila, Bagerhat, for posting offensive content about Zaima Rahman, daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, on Facebook.
The arrestee has been identified as Sheikh Rasel alias Rafiqul, 24, son of Zahid Sheikh of Gopalpur village in Kachua upazila. He is reportedly a fourth-class employee of Dhaka North City Corporation.
Police said Rasel shared an obscene and offensive post about Zaima Rahman from his personal Facebook account. A screenshot of the post spread on social media, prompting local BNP leaders and activists to inform police.
Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqul Islam said a team conducted a raid in the Badhal Bazar area of the upazila late on Monday night, June 8, and arrested him.
A case has been filed against him under the Special Powers Act. He was produced before the Bagerhat court on Tuesday morning, June 9, and the judge ordered him sent to jail.
Law enforcement authorities have stated that legal action will continue against the dissemination of offensive and defamatory content on social media.
