Youth held while trying to sell police pistol
Police have arrested a youth from Noakhali's Senbagh when he was trying to sell a semi-automatic pistol looted from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The youth, Monir Ahmed, 22, was held from Ward No. 9 of Kadra Union of the upazila around 10:30pm on Friday.
He will produced before the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Saturday.
According to the police, miscreants looted government weapons attacking various police stations across the country including Dhaka on August 5.
The police are on alert to ensure that the looted weapons are not used in terrorist activities. In this continuation, on Friday, Senbagh Police Station learned that Monir has a sophisticated pistol. He is trying to sell the weapon to local criminals.
Acting on such information, a team of Senbagh police station in coordination with the army raided Hanif Baburchi's new house and held Monir with a semi-automatic 7.62 mm pistol.
Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Asaduzzaman said, during initial interrogation, the youth said that his neighbour and relative Md. Qayyum kept the weapon with him to sell. The weapon was looted from a police station under Dhaka Metropolitan Area. Qayyum directly participated in the robbery. A regular case has been filed at Senbag police station in this incident.
The operation is underway to arrest Qayyum.
