A young man named Manjurul Islam, 22, has been killed in a shooting by miscreants in Khulna. The incident took place around 6pm in the Ashibigha area under Labanchara police station in the city on Wednesday. Police initially suspect the killing may have stemmed from a dispute over a football match.

The deceased Manjurul was the son of Khokon, a resident of the area. Family members claimed he had no prior enmity with anyone. Miscreants approached him while he was in the locality on Wednesday evening, shot him and fled.

Relatives said Manjurul used to study earlier but could not continue his education due to the family’s financial hardship. He later worked with his father in house construction. He did not go to work on Wednesday. Family members claimed he was known as a good boy in the area.

After being shot and critically injured, Manjurul was rescued and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Upon receiving the news, Manjurul’s father Khokon rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Hearing of his son’s death there, he broke down in tears. The heart-rending cries of the relatives created an emotional scene in the hospital area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Labanchara police station Syed Mosharraf Hossain said football is played in an open field in the Ashibigha area. Preliminary information suggests the incident may have occurred as a result of a dispute over a football match. However, the actual cause will be confirmed after investigation.
