Yunus-Starmer meeting yet to be confirmed
A meeting between Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is yet to be finalized, according to the Chief Adviser’s Office.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Tuesday told reporters that discussions are ongoing, as Starmer is currently on a visit to Canada.
“We have learned that Prime Minister Starmer is in Canada. A British parliamentarian visiting today informed us of this,” Alam said in response to a media query.
He added that the meeting would take place if both parties’ schedules could be aligned. “It is still being worked out,” he said.
Deputy Press Secretary Azad Majumder and Minister (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission in London, Akbar Hossain, were also present at the briefing.
In response to a question regarding a letter reportedly sent by British MP Tulip Siddiq, Alam confirmed the letter had been received.
“It is a legal matter and will be dealt with accordingly through legal channels,” he stated.
Earlier in the day, a group of British parliamentarians, under the banner of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), met with Dr. Yunus at his hotel in London. The meeting focused on issues of mutual interest.
