Zaheer Khan becomes head coach of Chennai Super Kings

Former star pacer of India Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The five-time champion team has chosen him as the new coach keeping the 2027 IPL season ahead.

Zaheer is succeeding after Stephen Fleming who performed the responsibility of the coach of Chennai for a long 18 years stepped aside. Through this the former left-arm pacer of India is going to take the responsibility of the head coach of any team for the first time.

Zaheer’s international cricket career was of 14 years. He was an important member of the team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup for India. Although he has worked in various roles of coaching and management after retiring as a cricketer this time he is going to start a new chapter as the head coach for the first time.

Earlier Zaheer performed the responsibility of cricket director and global head of development at Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022. Later he also worked as the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants. The tenure of his contract with Lucknow ended in September 2025.

Zaheer Khan has expressed excitement after getting the responsibility of the head coach of CSK. He said getting associated with one of the most successful teams of the IPL is an honour for him. He also informed that he has played against Chennai on the field as a cricketer and has enjoyed those fights. This former pacer also commented that the atmosphere created by the supporters of CSK at the Chepauk ground makes the team different from others.

Zaheer has played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. His collection is 102 wickets in 100 matches of the tournament. He had also played in the IPL finals of 2010 and 2011. The interesting matter is that his team had to play against Chennai Super Kings in both the finals.
