The namaz-e-janaza of Dhaka Capitals assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki was held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, sending a wave of grief across the country’s cricket fraternity amid the ongoing BPL.

On Saturday, December 27, around 20 minutes before the start of the match between Rajshahi Warriors and Dhaka Capitals, players of both teams were warming up when Mahbub Ali Zaki suddenly collapsed on the field.

He was immediately given CPR and later taken to hospital by ambulance, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead after necessary examinations.

Following the match, his janaza was held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. After the funeral prayers, the body was taken to his ancestral home in Cumilla under family supervision.

Mahbub Ali Zaki had long-standing contributions to Bangladesh cricket. In 2020, he served as the pace bowling coach of the Bangladesh Under-19 team that went on to win the World Cup. He also played an important role in addressing technical issues of many promising fast bowlers in the country.
