Zero tolerance for irregularities, Tk 1,244 crore fund for sports federations

State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque has announced the formation of an institutional fund (seed money) amounting to Tk 1,244 crore to financially empower the country's sports federations. He made the announcement during an exchange meeting with the newly formed ad-hoc committee officials of 14 federations at the National Sports Council on Sunday.

The state minister stated that the government will maintain a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, nepotism, financial irregularities, or the misuse of funds under the guise of foreign tours. If any individual is proven to be involved in irregularities, strict action will be taken not only organizationally but also in accordance with existing laws.

He informed that the funds will be distributed among the federations according to various categories. Federations will be permitted to spend 75 percent of the annual dividends from the principal fund on organizing regular sports, hosting tournaments, and player welfare. The remaining 25 percent will be reinvested back into the principal fund.

According to preliminary plans, the Bangladesh Football Federation may receive around Tk 50 crore as seed money. Hockey, archery, shooting, and other federations will also receive significant allocations. However, the National Sports Council will disclose the federation-wise breakdown of funds following final approval.

It was also decided at the meeting that each federation must organize at least four national tournaments annually and aim to participate in at least three international events—including hosting competitions domestically—to enhance the country's representation on the international stage.
